Just thought you might be interested in knowing that none of the major French channels (TF1, A2, FR3, M6) have, as of this moment, even bothered to interrupt programming to announce the Columbia news. I live in Switzerland and have been zapping back and forth between CNN, MSNBC, BBC and various Swiss, German and French channels. The French apparently haven't noticed yet (or don't care?)
Best regards from Lausanne,

Hmm. That's representative, too.
I know that this involves Americans and an Israeli so it is automatically deemed as something the rest of the world needs to care about to avoid being anti-American and anti-Semitic in the minds of those like Reynolds, but let's be honest and just say that this involves the deaths of no more than seven people so it probably isn't going to be the biggest bit of news this year, nor is it something that should necessairly prompt people to watch t.v. without end because there could be a "breaking development."
But maybe that is just me. I was eight years old when the Challenger accident happened and I remember thinking and talking about it as if was one of the greatest disasters ever. My dad informed that while it was an tragic accident, that many far worse things had happened in the past and were likely to happen in the future.
Now that I think about it, I bet this exchange impacted my outlook on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the "war on terror" that has followed. posted by micah holmquist at 2/01/2003 12:11:00 PM
