I just got back from seeing Mr. Deeds and suffice to say there is a reason I don't want to get anywhere near most Hollywood movies, let alone be sitting in front of a screen showing them.
The movie is a remake of the 1936 pelicula Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, which I haven't seen, and despite some obvious tweaking this new film has a plot staight out of the "Golden Age." Naive good hearted small town boy, Longfellow Deeds played by Adam Sandler, inherits a lot of money. A bunch of more "wordly people from the big city, in this case New York City, try to manipulate him, including a girl who naive good hearted small town boy falls in love with, Pam Dawson played by Winona Ryder. Eventually the manipulative girls falls in love with him and together the two thwart the other manipulative big city people. Throw in a laughbly predicatable plot twist, a bunch of moderately funny to rather pitiful jokes and some even more pitiful nods to "The Boy who Cried Wolf" and Misery and you have you this movie. posted by micah holmquist at 7/04/2002 05:39:00 PM
