In a New York Times story dated September 7, Michael R. Gordon and Judith Miller write:
More than a decade after Saddam Hussein agreed to give up weapons of mass destruction, Iraq has stepped up its quest for nuclear weapons and has embarked on a worldwide hunt for materials to make an atomic bomb, Bush administration officials said today.
In the last 14 months, Iraq has sought to buy thousands of specially designed aluminum tubes, which American officials believe were intended as components of centrifuges to enrich uranium. American officials said several efforts to arrange the shipment of the aluminum tubes were blocked or intercepted but declined to say, citing the sensitivity of the intelligence, where they came from or how they were stopped.
In other news, Prime Minister Tony Blair said today that the evidence against Iraq will convince allies that the country is a threat, according to the AP.
My guess, and keep in mind this is a guess and nothing more, is that the evidence presented will not be qualitativel different than that contained in the New York Times story. In other words it will show Iraq could do harm to the U.S. and its allies but not an intention of doing so. posted by micah holmquist at 9/08/2002 11:36:00 AM
